Except for being aesthetically pleasing and calm inducing, natural Christmas decorations are great for the earth as well! Buying plastic santas, synthetic garlands or other cheap rubbish that you throw away after one season (because it breaks) burdens the environment enormously.
Christmas is actually one of the most wasteful times of the year because so much is consumed and much thrown away mindlessly. By using natural Christmas decorations you are making Christmas more sustainable as you can compost it and will naturally biodegrade once it has done its job for the season.
Natural Christmas decorations are also much more economic, as you can forage the decoration for free. The DIY process is fun and relaxing and really puts you in that Christmas mood. It will also require you to finally go outside for once, to gather materials for your project!
19 Natural Christmas Decorations Ideas

First on the list of natural Christmas decorations are dried slices of citrus fruits. 2. A natural wreath
A wreath is a classic Christmas decoration that cannot be missed. And they are not that difficult to make either! The fun thing is that you can make them all so differently. You could make a wreath from holly and winter berries, pine, spruce, rosemary or why not a combination with all of them? Make big ones, small ones, minimalist ones or overly decorated ones! The choice is up to you if you decide to make one. If you don’t have time you could always buy one as well.

Decorating your home with garlands instantly gives it a festive feeling! Just like wreaths, you can create garlands from whatever natural elements you want. Another natural Christmas decoration is to make a Christmas bouquet and put it in a clear vase. You can make a bouquet with spruce twigs, winter berries, pine cones or whatever you wish to add to it. This is also a great alternative for a Christmas tree if you are not getting one this year.
6. Drying upside down bouquets
Another simple but aesthetic natural Christmas decoration is to tie a small bouquet with different natural elements (spruce branches, berries or herbs) together and hang it to dry upside down. This both looks festive and will spread the scent of drying herbs around the room! You can hang it up by doors, walls or the back of a chair.
7. Pinecones
Pinecones are a natural trinket that have so much potential in DIY crafts! You could glue them together to make a wreath, spray them with glitter or fake snow or add a string and turn it into a Christmas tree ornament. You could also just lay them in windowsills, add a wire to them so you can use them in a bouquet or add them to garlands. They look so cute as well and unlike flowers or pine branches, keep looking great for years.

Another trinket of nature to use for natural Christmas decorations. You could paint them gold or silver, use them as ornaments or simple lay them around your home. Just as pinecones these also keep well for many seasons to come!

16. Christmas flowers
There is something special about Christmas flowers. Maybe it’s because you only see them during the Christmas season. 19. Holiday pot potpourri
The last but maybe best smelling natural Christmas decoration is a holiday potpourri! The one on the stove may not look that pretty, but you can actually make a beautiful dry variant! It’s similar to the Christmas basket. Simply neatly arrange a beautiful bowl or basket with Christmas decorations with dry and natural things that can hold moisture. Then, use a solution from simmered cinnamon, clove and oranges or whatever scent you like and put it in a spray bottle. Then spray your Christmas bowl, as the dry decoration will absorb the scent and then distribute them around the room!
